I’m blogging? What?! Things have been so crazy this year with my business taking of and me sewing like a mad woman most days. I may have all but stopped blogging, but I have still been keeping up with the wide world of PDF sewing patterns, and there have been some great new designers making their presence known! This blog tour is showcasing three of those designers, as well as each of their debut patterns. I’ve only sewn up two of the patterns here, so be sure the check out the other tour members’ posts for a look at the Fishtail Kimono by Chalk and Notch.
The two patterns I did sew for this post are the Blue Ridge Dress by Hello Holli, and Abby’s Footed Tights by The Wolf and the Tree. Disclosure: I actually tested the tights and purchased the dress pattern before I was invited on the tour, so my opinions were not at all influenced by my receiving the patterns for free. Without further adieu, our “holiday” look.
Truth be told, this is not exactly the holiday outfit I had in mind. I made the tights a couple months ago, but they are Emerson’s favorite. And the dress was my test version of the pattern before I decided on a holiday look. But Emerson loved the dress, too. SO, this is our real life holiday look this season: a combination of Emerson’s favorites–the tights and dress that she has been wearing to every family function and will continue to wear until she outgrows them. It’s been a while since I have blogged–she is almost four and so I really have only about 12% influence on her clothing these days. Ha! I mean, this is what I’m dealing with lately. Insert crying/laughing emoji here.
Our Blue Ridge Dress is a lovely cotton velveteen in orchid, trimmed with a grey-brown t-shirt yarn. My girl is slim for her age, so I cut her a size two and instead of turning the hem under, I decided to bind it in the t-shirt yarn to keep some length. The pattern goes together beautifully. I wish I had a photo of the interior, as the finish is quite professional and comfy since all the seams are concealed. Plus I used a fun Cotton+Steel lining. The button is a fancy one pulled from my vintage collection.
The tights are a fun cotton/lycra gemstone print. I have experimented quite a bit with the Abby’s Footed Tights pattern, and what works best for us is using the two-way stretch version (even for four-way fabrics) and shorten the foot part of the pattern by two inches. I much prefer using four way stretch fabrics, as they seem much more comfortable and seem to conform better to the shape of the legs. Since Emerson is so slim, the elastic waist is the best option for us.
Short and sweet post, but that’s how I have to do everything these days. I am actually potty-training the boy right now (can you believe he’s already two?!), so things have to be extra short and sweet this week! :) OH! And I forgot the mention the accessory (E’s choosing, mind you)– it’s my new Cat Ear Crown, now available in my online shop in five colorways. :)
